The impact of the Hunger Cleanup is felt year-round. This spring,
we will continue to build upon the success of 2011 by involving 100
schools and helping to fight hunger in each of these communities and
across the country. We will raise $100,000 for critical efforts to
stop hunger in our communities. We will mobilize 10,000 volunteers
who will work with food banks in their community, and students will
provide more than 30,000 hours of volunteer power.
Through individual sponsorships, online,
and business donations, each school will raise funds for two
charities, Feeding America and the National Student Campaign Against
Hunger and Homelessness:
Feeding America (65%)
Across the country, more and more individuals
and families are struggling to put food on the table. As the nation's
leading domestic hunger-relief charity, Feeding America works to
feed America's hungry through a nationwide network of member food
banks and engage our country in the fight to end hunger.
Each year, the Feeding America network
provides food to more than 37 million low-income people facing hunger
in the United States, including 14 million children and nearly 3 million seniors.
As a national organization, Feeding America
has the relationships with food producers and haulers, businesses
and foundations to turn every $1 donated into 7 meals.
The National Student Campaign Against Hunger and Homelessness (35%)
Students understand the problems we face and are
taking action - from organizing food drives to help families who
struggle to put food on the table, to raising funds for international
crises like last year's earthquake in Haiti. The National Student
Campaign Against Hunger and Homelessness works to educate, engage and
train students at campuses across the country to be more effective in
their efforts to fight poverty. The funds raised through the Hunger
Cleanup help to fund a staff of policy experts and organizers to
grow a national network of student anti-poverty volunteers and
leaders.
